What is a voice assistant?
A voice assistant is a device capable of translating and interpreting user voice commands and performing the requested task. With a voice assistant, you can, for example, turn the lights on and off at home, ask for weather information, or find the nearest open pharmacy. There are several voice assistants on the market, with the most famous being Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant, Cortana, and Bixby.
Once activated with the respective wake word (e.g., Ok Google, Hey Siri, etc.), the voice assistant recognizes the user’s words, translating them through machine learning algorithms into actual commands.
What are smart home devices?
The term smart home refers to those intelligent devices that allow users to make voice requests that are then translated into specific commands.
Among the most famous smart home devices on the market are Amazon Echo and Google Home with their respective models. These devices only require a connection to the internet via Wi-Fi to transfer user requests to the cloud server where the artificial intelligence algorithm resides to process the voice request.

With ET-Assistant, you can, for example, query any database (of a website, management software, e-commerce, etc.) to retrieve preferred information or data, or control your home devices such as the boiler control unit, a thermostat, or simply the lights in a room.
